This new custom home design was based on the character of the surrounding homes and the clients' statement that he loved his kids, but wanted them “over there” some of the time. We came up with a design that locates the kids in one “house” and the parents in another “house”, both of which are joined together via a common roof and an upper level walkway. Under the kids “house”, were located all the family areas, (playroom, kitchen, dining, living), while under the adults “house were located office spaces, a library and a guest room. As is traditional in New England homes, a casual family entrance with a mudroom is located at the side, while a more formal entrance is at the front. (With Doug Lemle Architects, Boston). |
